Installing Manjaro In Virtual Box
Hello Readers,
Today we'll see how to install Manjaro. It's Arch Based Linux and more user friendly.
First things first...
Download the ISO file from Official Site ( https://manjaro.org/download/ ) or by clicking the link (Manjaro XFCE Version)
After Downloading ISO file open VirtualBox
On top select New and give any name to your virtual machine and change type to linux and change version to Arch Linux (32 or 64 Bit).
After doing that it should look something like below image.
After that we have to select Memory Size. Though Manjaro runs fine with even 1GB RAM it is recommended to give atleast 2GB RAM. I gave 4GB RAM.
Next It asks for Hard Disk, Select "Create a virtual Hard disk now"
Next Step is selecting Hard Disk File type, Select "VDI"
Next We have to select storage type. Select "Fixed Size".
Next select Memory Size you want to allocate for Manjaro. 30GB will be fine for normal usage. In case you want to install software and stuff give it more memory.
Note:
Once you select fixed size and given size you can't change it later.
Now the virtual space would've created. It looks like below image.
Select the virtual machine and go to settings and we have to change few setting here.
Go to Display and Select VBoxVGA for Graphics Controller and set video memory to fill (In my case it's 128MB).
After Selecting this it may say it's invalid setting. just ignore that. It allows us to work on full screen while using Manjaro.
Next Go to system menu in settings and give it 2 processors
Next go to storage, Right click on "Controller:IDE" and select optical drive and load the downloaded ISO file.
Next go to system menu in settings and select Motherboard and in boot order, select hard disk and bring it to the top. By doing this after installing it'll boot up form hard disk itself directly.
That's it....Now boot it up by select virtual machine and clicking start.
It'll take few minutes to load and it shows like this
select Boot option and click enter, it takes few minutes to setup and after few minutes you can see Manjaro home page.
In home page there will be a logo with image like CD which says "Install Manjaro", Double click, it will open up installation wizard for Manjaro.
Select your location and keyboard and in partitions menu select "Erase disk" option and it goes to user details now.
Give your details and select username and password and check the option "use same password for administrator account", if you want to use the acount just you created as Admin/ Root account.
Next it asks to select Office suite, select anyone.
Next it goes to summary page and click install, if it asks for confirmation click "Install Now" .
It takes around 4-5 Minutes to complete Installation. After Installation completed, it shows restart now option. select that and it'll restart now.
That's It......We are done with it now. Once it's restarts you'll have one of the beautiful Arch Linux infront of you.
Once its restarts it may have bunch of updates for you.
you can update all packages with command :
sudo pacman -Syu
The above command will update all your packages to latest version.
